Security vulnerability in V-Ray Swarm – What you need to know

Chaos has identified a security vulnerability affecting V-Ray Swarm version 2.0.19 and earlier, used with V-Ray for SketchUp, Rhino, and Revit.

Customers are advised to take the following precautions to keep their systems secure.

What is the security issue with V-Ray Swarm?

A security vulnerability has been identified in V-Ray Swarm 2.0.19 and earlier versions. This vulnerability could allow someone with network access to a computer running V-Ray Swarm to execute code on that machine.

Which V-Ray products are affected?

The vulnerability affects V-Ray Swarm installations associated with:

• V-Ray for SketchUp

• V-Ray for Rhino

• V-Ray for Revit

What should I do if I use V-Ray for SketchUp or Rhino?

Chaos recommends updating to V-Ray 7.40.03 or later for both SketchUp and Rhino.

These versions include built-in distributed rendering functionality, meaning V-Ray Swarm is no longer required.

If you cannot update immediately, Chaos recommends stopping the V-Ray Swarm service where it is not needed and uninstalling V-Ray Swarm.

If you have already updated V-Ray, check whether an older V-Ray Swarm installation is still present on your system.

What should I do if I use V-Ray for Revit?

Chaos has announced an updated V-Ray for Revit build to address the security issue.

In the meantime, customers are advised to stop the V-Ray Swarm service until the updated build has been installed.

Further information about the updated version will be provided when confirmed.

Can I still use distributed rendering without V-Ray Swarm?

Yes. The latest versions of V-Ray for SketchUp and Rhino include built-in distributed rendering functionality, so V-Ray Swarm is no longer needed.

Why is V-Ray Swarm no longer available for download?

Chaos has temporarily removed V-Ray Swarm installers from Chaos Downloads while preparing a security update.
