How does Thea Render work?

View the online documentation here:

Can I upgrade from version 1,2 or 3 to version 4.5?

Version 1 & 2: No. Because Thea Render is now a subscription (i.e. paying per year) you can switch from your current permanent version to the latest by taking out a subscription.

Version 3: Yes. You bought your license as a subscription, so you can simply download the latest version, install it and sign in with your current details.

How much is Thea Render version 4.5?

Current prices can be found here .

How many times can I activate Thea?

The license is personal and can be activated on one machine at a time via a login.

Can Thea also render in the Cloud/are there render farms?

With the special Render Nodes you can set up your own render farm, or at least have multiple computers in your network contribute to the calculations. You can have as many render nodes as you want, they do not require a license! Download the Render Node Installers here

NB.: Render Nodes are version 3.5 and not 4.5 because they do not support all features of version 4.5. However, they are compatible but only with the Presto rendering engine. The Nitro engine is not supported in the Render Nodes.

Rendering in the cloud, using a render farm, should technically be possible, but currently we do not know any companies offering this. Please let us know if you do.

Is Thea Render the same as Kerkythea?

Kerkythea is a free standalone rendering program developed by Thea founder Ioannis Pantazopoulos during his university years. Later he developed the paid Thea Render, which is available as a Rhino plugin and SketchUp plugin. Kerkythea is still available but is no longer developed since 2018.

What is the ordering procedure / what do we receive?

You will be given access to the Altair Account Portal where you can view your licenses and download Thea Render.

Can I transfer my license to someone else?

Licenses are non-transferable and cannot be transferred or resold to another person.

Can I use my node-locked license file from version 2 to activate the latest version?

Node-locked licenses do not get access to the latest version. A lease license is required.
