About URLs in LayOut documents

Modified on Thu, 26 Feb at 11:29 AM

LayOut's text editor itself doesn't support link formatting like HTML or a rich text editor does. Therefore, you can't include a link whose text is anything other than the URL itself.

You can, however, include a URL in your text by writing it out in full, such as http://www.design8.com. When you the export your LayOut document to PDF, most PDF readers automatically create a clickable link from this. This applies to Adobe Acrobat and the built-in PDF readers in Microsoft Edge, Brave browser, and Firefox browser, among others.

If you type a partially defined link, such as www.design8.com, some PDF readers will only recognize it if it's included in a text block, while others will only recognize it if it's a standalone line of text. If you forget the "www" at the beginning, no PDF reader will interpret it as a link.
